What Is the Difference Between GTOs and RTOs?

For aspiring electricians, getting matched with electrical companies hiring apprentices is much easier with the support of a group training organisation.

No doubt you’ve heard about RTOs and GTOs, let’s take a closer look at what the difference is.

Registered Training Organisations

RTOs provide training for nationally recognised courses and qualifications, including electrotechnology. These education providers develop training resources and training programs to help prepare the next generation of electricians. However, RTOs are focused the core elements of technical learning not actual employment. TAFE’s are a good example of an RTO.

Group Training Organisations

GTOs ensure on-the-job training and development through paid employment opportunities to the apprentice. GTOs employ apprentices and place them with Host companies for their on-the-job training.

The GTO managers all the employer responsibilities of all their apprentices, including salaries, superannuation, and workers' compensation insurance. The GTO should also manage the apprentices technical training to ensure they attend & pass their ‘off the job’ or formal Trade studies at an RTO.
